Forget the Dump! It now looks as if Brighton could have a nuclear-power station. Not in the Argus, but here it is.

Can anyone confirm that there is a nuclear facility of some sort across the channel from us, on the French coast.

Perhaps it will be the "enabling deveropment" for the King Alfred swimming pool?

Priceless...

Local people will still be able to object to the building of new nuclear power plants - but only on strictly local grounds, such as noise and traffic problems.

They will not be able to object on wider environmental grounds - such as the potential effects of radiation and nuclear waste.

Bodfish and Burgess must be relieved that they do not have to contend with grovelling to the Government over this one.

Wondered how long it would be before that connection was made.
Is that anything to do with the 'glow in the dark' features for Hove seafront ?

Yea the problem is there is no such thing a Fusion power plant. Maybe one day though.

I think a nuclear power station near brighton would be a good idea, provide lots of jobs for the economy. It could go where the shoreham power station is.

dont put your cat in the washing machine or you might get a sock in the puss

The context of the Guardian piece mentions conventional Power Stations possibly becoming available as sites. Therefore it is far more likely to be Shoreham ElTee.
The Argus has reported damning evidence of UK wide surveys on infant mortality downwind of Incinerators against those upwind of incinerators. The author has contributed some very interesting facts on the discussion itself on the Argus news page.

Yes it could be Shoreham.
But the homes are too close to it.

And the Wind in these areas
will effect the pathetic Incinerators
and all homes near them.

As for that argus front page
"Will this kill you ?"
typical helps them sell more papers
than ever before.

Oil and gas WILL run out, espescially with China wanting more and more.
I think we have to face reality and start planning.

I caught the back end of a report on the radio today. Something that BP suggested to the government back in 2005 when they were planning on shutting down one of their oil fields up Scotland way. It has to do with the production of 'green electricity' and converting the current pipeline, re-using the oil rig and permanently storing the CO gas in the places from which they have extracted oil. The government has been dragging its heels over this and now BP have had to withdraw the proposal as they have run out of time. Nice one Tony, another fond memory.

Hey control panel. Why's the title of the thread 'Brighton to have nuclear-power station'? Got any dates for when it will be ready?

The Guardian article does not give a precise date for the nuclear-power station.

Perhaps Roger French will be put in charge of it, as he seems to regard himself as the general Mr Fix-It around here.

If so, he could become our very own Mr Burns!

Probably better to let him have a go at it than let Bodfish have a run of things.

Perhaps when it is built, Mike Holland will buy it for a pound and give David Van Day a job handling plutonium or selling burgers to the workers or both.

At last! something to distinguish the residents from the day trippers.

The former will have green skin from all the fall-out. Whether this
obliterates all the work of the city's tatooists, I do not know. But if so, they will simply have to start again -so that is one section of the local economy that will gain.

I don't, but I probably agree with many of Moon's opinions, and I like to remind you that you have been one of his supporters in many occasions.

And BTW interesting discussion going on (direct link)
