It would make better sense to take off all the card at Customer Services, then no problem.
I hardly think it will make his life hell if say 1 in 1000 people going through his checkout leave their card here. All he will do is press the buzzer and someone will take it away.
This dad should have better things to do then worry about his Son's cardboard checkout problems. |

At peak times no one can take any card away.
Customer Services would get more data from these Trouble Makers. FACT. |

So, you are saying that people that are not willing to take all that unnecessary cardboard packaging home are troublemakers? |

Why not carry a little wind-up blender and mix all your shopping into a big smoothie. Or how about eating in the isles and not taking anything home at all, especially if the shop has a toilet...... |
I came into the world with nothing and still have most of it left.. |

No Miriam as the Dad of the 16 year old was saying it has nothing to do with him - he just wants to earn a wage, Not deal with Eco Nutters.
You would make a Fire Risk at "Peak times" at end of tills.
As you leave dump it with the Customers Service Big Counter job done.

Any case soon they will change all this 'wrong' packing or get big fines.

I`m not a Troublemaker, you know. When I DO have to make a point and stand my ground I do so calmly and politely.I`m not an eco-nut either. It`s not just about excess packaging (plastic meat boxes especially)taking up too much space in the fridge, it`s also about it taking up too much space in the bin. Makes perfect sense to dispose of it at source, but I do like the idea of doing it at the Customer Services counter rather than holding up the checkout queue. |

If you Ain't a Trouble Maker take it to Customer Services, if they are busy - no problem just put it on their counter they are ready for Eco Nutters. But leave the Hard working checkout staff alone they are just working hard they do not need Eco Nutters creating a Fire Hazard on their section. FACT. |

What is all this "Eco Nutters" stuff LTNS is going on about now?
These are people doing their bit for the planet Earth, of which there is rather more than the London Road, Brighton. |

The Planet Can Not be saved (it will burn up when it wants), it is going towards the Sun a Speed You can not follow.
If we had No Pollution the Freaking Weather would be just the same.
So Eco Nutters get out of my way. |

or is it Lidl? |

LTNS is in an apocalyptic frame of mind this evening...
Meanwhile, pending out collision with the Sun (news of which will probably surface in the Argus four days afterwards...), can LTNS tell us what happens to the paper/card, glass and cans which some residents so trustingly put into the recycling boxes?

That is Easy on that very same Radio debate a Boss told them how our Milk plastic Cartons (among other things) get remade in to Plastic Fences that are very good because they are so strong they keep ECO NUTTERS away from your door. FACT. |

Look, the recycle boxes we have up here designated for plastic glass and cans get emptied every Monday - when, with depressing regularity, anything plastic that isn`t BOTTLE-SHAPED gets left behind. (Also, we have a bag to put out weekly with newspapers etc. They won`t take cardboard.) All the `other` rubbish is supposed to go in a bin that gets emptied fortnightly. If the bin is too full for the lid to close they can refuse to take it. I`m one of the lucky ones with transport, I can take stuff to the local amenity skips. A lot of folks can`t. There`s a few housing estates round here, with a lot of young families that can`t help generating more than a fortnightly bin-full. They store the excess in sheds and outhouse areas, or just in the back garden, and periodically prevail on some friend of a friend with a trailer to do a skip run. And we wonder why there are reports in the local paper of Rats on this estate or that estate. I`m NOT an Eco-Nut, but while the Earth wanders toward the Sun and Ultimate Annihilation, I still consider it the duty of the local council, to whom I pay more than enough in Council Tax, to get off it`s high horse and stop creating problems where there are enough already.

Supermarkets should have an Eco-Nutter check out. They can remove packaging and hold festivals due the time it takes to queque. |

Who is this we LTNS? Anyway, it is LOCAL NEWS! It is local to Fluffy and she is a poster here and she considers it newsworthy ... that's good enough for me and most reasonable posters I would have thought.

Yup. that`s a GOOD idea DaveB. LTNS, do I take it from your post that all rubbish collections in YOUR local area are perfectly organised and running like clockwork, and there are no rats in anyone`s back yard?? Or is it just Your Very Own backyard, and others (Outsiders) mustn`t make comment or comparison? Get off my case and stop being so irritatingly Parochial, please! |

But the worms need to get in to do their stuff. Worms cannot get through cement or concrete - even if they have been fed on pasties. |

| No, Sorry, LT, but you can`t blame the rat/refuse problem on compost bins. Most residents in the patches I referred to don`t even have compost bins, regardless of what they`d think right to put in them if they had. In fact, many find it enough of a struggle to keep a bit of lawn and a straggly privet hedge in order. |

I ain't saying that is the Blame. But I am saying Dumb Folks that do not have a Solid Base means Rats get in.
As for Worms they still are in those Composts, But at least the Family of Rats ain't in it.
That is Common Sense. Ask Alan Titchmash.
