Squatters rights have led the Pastor powerless to stop yobs wrecking his church.
Page 17 todays argus paper.
The Baptist Church Richmond Parade, Brighton paid £1,000 to have it boarded it up, but they still got in.
The 180 year old organ has been ripped apart.

| i hate to say it but I agree with LTNS. I am sure there are some decent squatters who dont wreck places out there, but why do some they feel the need to destroy a house just because they dont own it? |

| All that is fair enough Richieb and I too agree that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable. However, and let us be quite frank about this ... we don't know that the actual squatters are the ones that damaged the property. Though I'll grant you that it is a fair assumption it is but an assumption. The original pair were granted permission to stay in the chapel so in a way, the squatters were invited in. |

| I certainly would! Without a trial and conviction it would be sheer murder. With a trial and conviction it would run contrary to a humane penal code. |

Put a sign up to say the church will be demolished on a date. Then if anyone is inside they must be guilty. Tough! |

I have an acquaintance that lived at said squat for the duration and have it on good information that the story the Argus printed was complete and utter rubbish.
Squatting is LEGAL, people with drug and alcohol problems need a roof too. |

| squatting is maybe not illegal as such ad I agree that people with drug and alcohol issues need roofs too however neither squatting nor substance issues are necessarily something to crow about I would have thought. |

There was some graffiti and mess, but the organ was not damaged by the squatters and drugs were NOT being sold from the premises, especially not to any children.
Having said that, I didn't see the squat with my own eyes and am saying this on the word of a friend, so...
It's being knocked down anyway
Once again the Argus blows it out of all proportion, using right wing alarmist rhetoric to make sure the grannies keep their knickers twisted and buying issues so they sit around being 'outraged' in front of Jeremy Kyle. |

The Organ should haver been removed.
Once the Dodgy Squatters Break In it becomes their fault 100%.
The Argus had some Key Points if you feel they expanded too much. Write into them then we can read your Reply in it. |

Some of the most intelligent, creative and interesting people I know are hopeless drug addicts and squatters. This is why I speak on their behalf.
The exact opposite is true in a lot of cases though of course |

That is a fair point, but I suspect any letter stating the truth of the situation wouldn't be printed by the local tory rag. |

I dare say though I would question the need for anyone to speak on behalf of intelligent, creative and interesting people unless of course their intelligence, creativity and sheer fascination means that they consider themselves as not needing to empower themselves to do so on their own behalf.
Look, like it or not and believe it or not, I have no axe to grind with people who elect to drop out of society. Having said that, I do not see why people that elect to drop out of society can then expect society not to pull away from them.
If, on the other hand you were speaking on behalf of those who have dropped out of society because they had no choice .... well, then by all means, speak out. |

I totally agree with the point you're making regarding those who choose to drop out because it's 'cool' and they can go back to daddies trust fund at any point- Trustafarians! - (lol), but I wasn't referring to them. They can keep their hippy logic and suck my balls.
Squatting is a necessity for many, however. |

Intelligent, creative and interesting does not equate to an ability to sort one's life out, get a job etc. in a lot of cases.
Judge lest thou not be judged. :) |
