Working on a Bridge while only two lanes were going with bumper to bumper could only happen in America. Over 30 are still not accounted for.
Of course they had know idea the stress it was under but Ch4 News just showed how UK bridges are closed while work goes on, in general.

This could happen anywhere in the world, we will have to wait and see what they find after an enquiry, poor design, sub-standard materials ?

Not in the UK when we work like that on Bridges it is closed off. Ch4 News stated that.
It was built in 1967 but reports 3 years back said it was in trouble.
In America loads of roads are in a bad way. They have not all changed to smaller cars and they use roads far more.
In China I would think it could happen but not the same way in the UK. |

Yep, you are correct LT. 400 to 800 Billion US$ for Iraq and the infrastructure of the USA is falling apart.
One caution on blaming the construction going on at the time being a cause...the repair crews were resurfacing the road and had no involvement with the actual support structure at all. So I suspect the cause will be found elsewhere.
EDIT (I do not think you are correct about Nightbird's post LT, it could happen anywhere in the world....We posted at same time and I was agreeing with you that much of the aging US infrastructure is being ignored by the cash strapped local, state and fed government.)
As for "deficient" see the link... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070803/ap_on_re_us/bridge_safety |

Camelot in general the UK has far better Standards. That is why I say nighbird is very wrong.
And America should come well before Iraq.

LTNS please show some examples of these far better standards.
I doubt very much that you can as I feel that your statement is one made by bias and prejudice rather then FACT |

I think it was an article on their personal hygiene standards. I mean, thanks to LT, we all know that Americans stink. |

Here's an example that backs LTNS...a bridge judged deficient by English standards purchased and being put to use in the USA...They just don't build them like they used to

Well some good news. Less people have died than the original estimates. Not such good news for the eight and their families though...
"Divers still searched through the swirling, muddy currents for cars and bodies. However, the death toll remained at five from Wednesday's collapse and authorities cast doubt on an earlier estimate that as many as 30 people were missing. They even said it could be as few as eight."
