Thought you might like to know... there was an article on BBC Wales about this establishment, seems they`re fussy about their clientele`s behaviour. Those who dunk, clink their teaspoons, or speak unkindly about members of the Royal Family will be asked to leave. With nothing more exiting to discussthey had a phone-in about it. Riveting stuff...

Miriam, myself and two other forum members had high tea there a while ago. If they can let us in, then they are not that snooty! (mind you we were on our very best behaviour and did not drink our tea out of the saucer).

Actually Fluffy it is a wonderfully quaint place run by a couple of the most adorable eccentrics ever. I think you would enjoy it immensely and I know your granddaughter would remember it as an experience worth its weight in gold.

Yes, I forgot to mention the mobile phone ban. I rather approve of that bit, actually. If it`s got them that much publicity, those adorable eccentrics aren`t daft, are they??

The story of how all this came about is rather interesting. They had bought this house and one of the chappies used the room at the front to display his collection of Royal curiosities and tea related knick knacks. They would have people knocking on the door, demanding a cup of tea ... eventually they said, why not. The chap that does most of the front of house stuff is a tiny little thing, all of 5 foot 2-4 I would say, slightly built and reminded me in many ways of the Mad Hatter.

As for them being daft ... nah far from it but on the other hand they aren't cynics either.

I just had this lovely image of a tea-rooms run by the Mad Hatter. Nursing home I used to work in participated in the town`s annual Mayday Carnival, our float was Alice - the Mad Hatter`s tea-party. My daughter, before she started messing with hair colourants, was the classic Alice, 2 of our mobile patients dressed as Mad Hatter and Knave of Hearts, and a little sleepy-faced snub-nosed care assistant with perfect face-paint was the best Dormouse ever. Move round the table again, pour more tea on the Dormouse....

Are you sure it is just tea you two are partaking of?

`twas wonderful Mims, we won the prize for best carnival float that year. My daughter, the ex `perfect Alice` has most of the photos. An elderly ex-Mayoress whose name was Alice had some of the photos. It was a brilliant day. A real Mad Hatter`s tea-party. I`d spent most of it, unpaid and voluntary on pins watching my participating patients. Dave B, you`d be surprised wahat folks do on just a cuppa to fire their enthusiasms.

Perhaps the seashop owner should consider starting a hotel. Some Germans might, unawares, decide to stay there...

It's all gone beserk over at the tea cosy again. Perhaps troubled Starbucks will have to resort to such tactics.
