| I'm glad to see that things seem to hotting up a bit - will any posters be at the count? I'd love to hear about the glum looks and heckles that there must surely be. |

I notice there are two Respect Party candidates (Hangleton and Moulscombe and Bevendean) yet a look at the party's website shows that there is not Brighton & Hove chapter for the part in their South East section:
http://www.respectcoalition.org/index.php?sec=24&lid=13
Portsmouth, Southampton, Maidenhead, Luton, Oxford, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe are all there, but not Brighton & Hove. I wonder whether a victory for Maggie Clifford or David Gerard Hewett Bangs (who should win the seat just for having that name) will change that. I'll be watching. |

I've also noticed that although the BNP are running candidates in Arun, Bognor, Chichester, Crawley, Horsham and Pevensy, they have stayed away from Sussex's only city - probably wisely.
(Sorry about the anorakiness, but I tend to get all 'Peter Snow' when elections come around and the mere sound of the word "Swingometer" raises my heartbeat a little. Sad, really) |

Gosh, and I thought I was being anoraky. You are, of course, correct. Seeing I was confirmed by the Bishop of Chichester I should have known that.

More Election fears here, about such things as telephone voting.
How can they think such devices will increase interest if there are no such things as public debates?

All these new voting methods are open to fraud, postal voting was a disaster now their talking of e-voting. Lets keep to the tried and tested method, not fool proof but more prefrable. |

I think you'll find that Brighton and Hove is a city, being granted a charter in 2000. Chichester is a one horse dorp.
Nightbird - it doesn't look as certain as it did a few weeks ago that labour will get a slapping. Tomorrow lunchtime(?) we will all know. life in the polling booth |

I did say "true" city. Brighton and Hove is a political concoction. |

| Labour, battered and bruised but not knocked out ... yet. However not all the election results are in yet. |

Yes Roy Pennington was one of the most assiduous ward councillors in the city centre wards, but he knew that with 4 parties mounting serious campaigns it would be a lottery who came out on top. Last time it was Roy and that Lib Dem from Rottingdean who was never seen in the ward while Roy did all the representation for residents. Let us hope the two Greens buckle down to ward work because city centre residents don't want to be ignored.
Brunswick and Central Hove stay the same - no surprise there the majorities were pretty big in both.
It is of course the smaller wards that will be finished counting first. The ones with lots of independents such as Goldsmid will take the longest. |

According to the news from the Islingwordstreet blog, the Tories now have 25 with three wards to go. Moulsecoomb/Bevendean, Queen's Park and Preston Park. An overall majority would require 27 councillors. [Edit] Half the council is 27, an overall majority would be 28. Also thanks to the Captain for the alert to the blog.
