Final result from the blog:
Con 26 Lab 13, Grn 12, LD 2, Ind 1. (=28)
So Jayne Bennett holds the balance of power. |

Who is this Jayne Bennett? Will she more likely side with the Tories? |

| Talking of sacking - hopefully the new admin will instruct McCarthy to actually do the job he is paid for and stop spreading lies and misinformation, or preferably sack him and bring in an old style professional principled Chief Exec (e.g Reg Morgan)- or dont they exist any more. |

| Voting figures for Lewes are now on the Argus site - but not for Brighton & Hove. The council site still only has the winners. |

| no change ie. council still 'No overall control' as before. Although the actual number of seats each party controls has of course changed. |

| So what happens now with King Alfred?? All change?? Can they change the outcome, bearing in mind the vote for it was split politically? |

That may be for the best when you think about it ... the dunnyclubhouse isn't really designed for the mayoral chain of office ...

The control panel was accurate in predicting a hung council, though that was clear enough to see.
Councillor Fitch has left the building! That means that Councillor Bennett is less likely to be leaned upon. She was a Tory. There was a falling out, and as an independent she was one of the people with whom Anne Giebeler fell out.
She is the only independent. Events can change things, as Ken Bodfish found, but the underlying trend is that there is not a place for independents in Brighton and Hove and that the LibDems, in thrall to Labour, have missed the boat, and will be all out next time.

so, the way I see it, Labour have courted the 'lets escape London' crowd over the years with policies such as european city of culture, king alfred etc and provided the accomodation for these (not local residents) in the form of block after block of new flats while areas such as hanover escalate hugely in house prices. The town centre becomes almost devoid of Brighton residents who have moved to the suburbs and beyond (i.e Peacehaven etc) and it all backfires when the museli consuming crowd vote green instead of labour because thats what you do when you move to Brighton isn't it?
Talk about misreading your market!
If Simon Burgess was on the Apprentice and this election was a task, he'd of heard the phrase "you're fired!" but I suppose he sort of has been... |

Unlikely as it might seem, it turns out that the Greens are really pleased with Brian Ralfe. In Brunswick, he put out leaflets which made it clear that the LibDems were responsible for King Alfred going through - so far - and they reckon that helped people vote for the Greens as they had two candidates and Ralfe was only one.
It looks set for the Greens to get it next time. |

They should get Brunswick. And then be the second party. Brunswick is Regency by another name.
Not yet sure where their other gains could be. |

Excellent comparison. That applies to them all. What about Simon Fanshawe & Co (those unelected ones) - When is their day on 'The Apprentice'. |

The Greens did indeed not dig their heels in soon enough, but, to their credit, they recognised what they had done, and made some amends, but the LibDems went full tilt ahead and voted for the KA when it reached Planning.
All parties in the new set-up realize that, from this, the LibDems are not to be trusted. They are sure to be out in four years' time thanks to Councillor Watkins. He did not take the long view but looked to the hort-term interests, and these have now passed by.
A whole new ball game has begun, and the LibDems are irrelevant. |

But you should accept that if the Greens did not propose a meaningless compromise the planning would noy have been approved. I do not support the Lib dems one iota but between them and the greens, labour have got what they wanted.
Lib Dems and Greens sold out and should be ashamed.

That is true, but when push came to final shove, the LibDems could have said no. It would be curious to know how closely David Watkins read the agenda before coming out with that rubbish about "Mystic Meg" and a "full house".
Meg is certain that he will lose his seat in four years' time. It is written in the stars - or perhaps on the sidewalk.
A stroll around these parts today revealed that near Queen's Park somebody has scrawled on the ground: GOODBYE BODFISH.
For all his faults, Bodfish was a better man than Watkins.
Shows how strong are local feelings for that to appear.
