The Argus has managed to spell Brian Wilson's name correctly here but, at this time, called him "the late" (unless it's been corrected).

| I really think that someone should take the Argus to task for referring to Newhaven as Poohaven in their headline. It really shows a degree of facile childishness that is ... actually, come to think of it ... it is exactly what one would expect from the Argus in all its current glory. |

The Argus' style of reporting is also going downhill. It's getting more like the Sun/Mirror every day. Call me old fashioned, but why use the word "neck" for drink as they did the other day? Are they trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator? There are many other examples, but I haven't got the time or inclination to post them all at this moment. |

The Argus has now corrected the Beetle/Beatle spelling...
But its approach to spelling suggests that the journalists are not greatly interested by their work, it is all casual.
And if readers get that impression of the writing, then they are going to be less inclined to read it - the Argus spelling is looking like the sign of a paper moving quickly into an end game. |

what about this howler of a misquote from Britain Today section of Argus, Monday Oct 15th. Oscar Wilde 'who even on his deathbed uttered' "either those curtains go or I do", the actual quote is "this wallpaper will be the death of me; one of us will have to go". Wallpaper not curtains you dopes. |

| Wow ... well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs. How many nominees were there? If what we have seen over the past year is indeed worthy of any award it must be the award for fastest sinking local rag! |

The Argus here writes "were" when it should be "was" - "none" being subject of the sentence.
Mrs Poppadum says that the Argus used to have a column on a Friday in which the Editor had regularly to go "mea culpa" when readers wrote in to draw his attention to the week's parade of howlers.
He should bring it back - and allow at least a page for it.

The Argus has this on its website. Since when has the Shadow Chancellor been a Councillor?
"Councillor George Osborne sets out his commitment to raising the stamp duty threshold to £250K to help people buy their first home.
Read all about it" |

The Argus here writes "flaunt a loophole" when the word it is thinking of is "flout", but, even so it should really use "exploit".
You cannot "flaunt" it, as that means display , and flout means disregard a law or rule but as there is a loophole it is not exactly disobeying the law (morally it might be, of course). So the word should have been "exploit", meaning to take advantage of in something of a questionable manner.

The Argus has now moved Palmeira Square back into Hove!
I should think that old Frank Gehry must envy the free and easy way in which the Argus is able to play havoc with Brighton and Hove's landscape.
Could the Argus mow move the King Alfred "development" to Saltdean, please? |

Plus they made the exact correction you suggested to the "flaunt a loophole" story. |

They don't delve very deeply into their articles though do they ... it is still there in the fifth paragraph (if you can call single sentences a paragraph)! |
