Zimbabwe live via ITV News
is a risk.
But they showed the problems.

The UK can in no way go into that nation
because due to the History of the British Empire days.

ITV is free on the Internet as well
for UK customers.

Sanctions will not help the people
more will die.

Great to give independence to the colonies.
Look at the grief it causes.

Can anyone name an African success story after a colonial power has pulled out?

Compare this with India, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and America.

OK forget America!

We're all doomed!

Wish it were as simple as blaming it on the pulling out.

It is the mess it leaves behind.
Corrupt Dictators and supressed tribal wars.

Yugoslavia was good European example of suddden freedom!
Even though that was a dictatorship falling apart.

Really? And how African is that country - aside from its mere geographical location that is. And again, how successful is it for the majority of its residents? How does it deal with the AIDS epidemic for instance ... how has it eradicated the gross inequities that are still there long after apartheid has been 'officially' declared passé?

As a nation it is doing well.
So yes Miriam - YES.

Any African Nation does nothing to help its Aids epidemic.
They will not even Allow use of Condoms.
So that is sadly Normal.

They are not the only ones that do not allow the use of condoms and quite frankly that is a papal issue as it is the Catholic Church and its head 'fisherman' that oppose the use of condoms. But that wasn't the issue isn't whether that is 'normal' for Africa but whether that is indicative of advancement.

I think you are wrong. Most reasonable people would say you are wrong but you keep deluding yourself LTNS.

My Point is that Nation (South Africa) is a Rich Nation.
It has more Poor than Rich,
but then so does the No.1 Nation of the World - China.

As for you saying the Aids Epedemic
that is very correct Religion Stinks

Well I guess that depends upon how you define "doing well", LTNS. Grant you it aint another Zimbabwe et al, but: according to The world factbook, compiled by the CIA and published by the US government, after the first 13 years of the ANC 50% of people now live below the poverty datum line, and life expectancy has dropped to 42.45 years. The infant mortality rate has increased to 59.44 (it was 45 in 1990). This in a country rated as ‘middle income’, with the 10th largest stock exchange in the world. The GINI coefficient, which is an indication of the income differential between the highest and lowest earners, now largely distinguishes between the rich black elite and poor blacks, whereas before it was between rich whites and poor blacks.
Racism still permeates all aspects of life in South Africa, and is used at every opportunity to promote African blacks, while it is common cause that ‘coloured’ and ‘Indian’ people never suffered under apartheid and therefore do not need to be considered as victims. Strangely enough, the group responsible for keeping the apartheid government in place over all the decades - ie, the whites - has gained the most out of this process, and continues to have the best of the political deal in South Africa: hence their worship of Mandela and support for Mbeki.
Access to healthcare, education, water, electricity, sanitation, jobs and housing is available to those who can pay for it, as even water supply has been privatised. In certain areas of the Eastern Cape, for example, unemployment is at 60% - the government claims that the national average is 30%. There is no social security network, so that unemployed people have no source of income, but rely on handouts from family and friends....we could go on, but it is just a Forum for an odd comment or two ....

It is better than most.
That is because the did not take the control of business and farms from the incumbents.
Many have left and South Africa is not as successful os safe as it once was.

They were lucky to have Mandela.

We're all doomed!

If it is merely an issue of relativity I would have to agree Daveb, however is relativity a yardstick for judging or measuring?
