Yes all the people who live on Regency square and neighbouring areas will have even more tourists on their doorsteps. They will have this towering over them when they open the door in the morning. Maybe some people will like this, but personaly it made me want to move out of the area. Which I have now done.

Has Moon moved to Mars?

What other earthly dwelling place could suit Moon better than Brighton.

I would have thought Moon have liked the eye but then Moon is most likely high enough already!

If the West Pier Trust is involved too much with i360 project it is doomed.
Look what they did for the West Pier!

We're all doomed!
Head for the hills before they start heading for you!

I've heard the beach is going to be fenced off so that the lorries going to the West Pier to take bits of it away can trundle along it. For how long. I'm not surprised Moon moved. Who'd want that eye thing glaring in your window plus all the disruption on Seafront and beach for a private company's project.

Probably people who'd want to see some progress in Brighton I'd imagine instead of the gradual decline of the seafront

The WPT is just the landlord. The company who bought the rights to run the attraction from Mark Barsfield is called I-Experience and ran by a lady who managed the London Eye since opening. I've met her she is quite impressive and has been very proactive - I'd be surprised if it failed due to management.

To a large extent the 'gradual decline' of the seafront is due to a failure to maintain and refurbish.

If the i360 is successful all that extra income the council willreceive will go to maintain other parts of the seafront, or the success could attract other investors who may do up those arches around the pier for small businesses creating a little bubble of regeneration.

My money is on a Starbucks being in one of those arches soon.

Where have we heard those sort of promises from before? Ah yes, of course, silly me ... BHCC of course.

fartin, I am probably as aware as most that fighting to preserve those parts that made Brighton is a losing battle. Progress über alles seems to be the watchword and you are probably right and Starbucks will be in one of those arches.

But over the last few years the seafront has been improved hugely. The shops galleries and bars in the arches make the place so much better than it was.
Shame that pretty much the only thing we have in Hove is the Babylon lounge, with regular ladies nites.
I hope the council continues to spend a bit of money on it

I cannot see how the I360 can make that area any worse. There needs to be an attraction that end of the seafront to draw tourists west. I'm sure the existing traders will be pleased with the addtional people pulled towards Hove...or is that end of town for residents only?

The cycle route at West Pier will be sorted out as well....I know the person quite well who proposed that :-)

Mrs Poppadum was saying that the Babylon Lounge got permission to be rebuilt as some sort of "high class" joint but nothing has happened there. Word is that this was a mask to turn it into take-away burger place but the planners spotted that wheeze and there were clauses added to stop that. Everybody has to be seated.

Now now NE ... think about it for a second. If we make sure that the Rich Americans of LTNS' imagination go on it first ... well, if it doesn't work at worse we will have lost a few Rich Americans ... plenty of them according to the oracle

Personally I see the I360 thingy as part of the decline. There once was a wonderful Victorian promenade along Brighton Seafront. With the West Pier, Bandstand, Iron Benches and Lights. Instead we had a few sculptures, half of which have now gone after only a few years (remember that rusty pipe thing), some Mosaics that have fallen apart and now look naff. Oh and some Gravel pits with sparse desert planting have replaced the once grand rose gardens. Meanwhile the bandstand is still waiting repair and the rusty benches are fallen apart. Oh and new 'trendy' lighting has been put in along Kingsway towards Hove.

That's why the seafront is in decline, because the wonderful features it does have are being left to rot whilst a low quality tarting up exercise is carried out. Maybe I’m just old fashioned and prefer the Victorian features, this might just be what’s called progress.

Yes moon, the seafront should be free for people to throw a frisbee, kick a ball or fly a kite.

Oh hold on, you don't agree with people doing that. As you don't like it.

What are you on about?

Stunt Kites are dangerous sometimes, fine with normal Kites. Football depends on the size of the match etc... The orgainzed league is a bit much on Hove Lawns really. There are other spaces and people could be more consideriate

It should work as the design is being led by the guy who happened to leed the design for the London eye plus numerous other rides including one of the largest wooden roller coasters.

The first works people will see is the diversion of the soutern water sewer.

I'm with Moon. I still think the Council's plan was to let the Bandstand rot, remove it then more bars, cheap tarting up, ie. an open space with gravel in it, etc. The seafront could be one long bar. No thanks. What's wrong with a restored bandstand with nice plants outside it, cafe under it, family area round it as it's near to the paddling pool with family entertainment and seating that you don't have to buy something to sit on.

Another delay.
Got to move main sewer.
Is this part of the one just being improved?
Oh good more roadworks.
The term "piss up" and the word brewery come to mind.

just looked at the plans here at work. It is a small local sewer that runs just in front of the arches. so no need to close the a259.

Thank you fartin1976.
Should such a small sewer warrant a delay?

Do you kow if orders have been placed with any contractors?
