The Argus reports that the costs of building a bog-standard stadium at Falmer have shot up. Price of steel, for one thing.

So what about the costings of old Gehry's dodgy alloys?

The price of everything needed to build this development has gone up. A lot. The sale price however hasn't. And with the smart money avoiding new build buy - to - let I wonder who exactly is going to buy these stacked - up hamster cages?

Perhaps some of the retired nurses being evicted to make room for "a supermarket or perhaps some flats" in Roedean Road might be suitable tenants. After all, if you had a choice about where to live any more would you want to live in these awful new built tiny flats?

Reports that England is to have many more anti-terrorist measures, including railway searches etc and buildings to be made bomb-proof with less risk of injury from shattering glass.

So where does the "Gehry" stand - or fall - in all this?

Even now, somewhere in the Afghan mountains a beardie could be looking at a map and saying, "Looking ahead, it appears that the Brighton planning committee has given us this... activate agent X at Shoreham Airport."

(Of course, another beardie peers more closely at the map and chips in, "it's Hove actually.")

There is a rumour that the man himself, frank gehry, was in Brighton recently, and that he has ceased his involvement with the project.
Also in yesterdays argus there was a resubmission of a stopping up order of the kings esplanade-it only mentions hepher dixon, not karis-the order being one of the final hurdles to get this thing through, the other being the planning permission for the indoor bowls centre to be built in Hove Park.Plus the 91 conditions,,,

Brad Pitt has asked - and partly funded (good for him) - various firms of architects to deisgn eco-home, adffordable, to replace buildings lost in New Orleans.

Curiously, Gehry (and Arghitros...) are not among them...

I think it amazing how much Brian Oxley does not know about this so called landmark development.

An interesting story here which shows that in Scotland as well as Brighton to be a Councillor is essentially meaningless.

Decisions are taken out of their hands when the megabucks are rolling.

The news that Barretts' shares are tumbling and it's no longer in the FTSE 100 must make it bankrolling the Marina considerably harder - indeed impossible - especially with the complicated footings. That does not make it a good look-out for Karis at the King Alfred.

Planning consents are valid five years, which leaves about four in each case...

A piece here about The Lost Cities which states that so much destruction is because so many councillors are stupid, with no idea of what they are meant to be discussing.

Makes you wonder if it will get even more delays.
The longer it drags on the more locals may give up
the fight over the strange design.

The Council appears to be in a quandary about when to make an announcement about any next stage in the King Alfred saga. It could go either way.

Mrs Poppadum has brought in the latest Private Eye. Its Rotten Boroughs awards for the most dodgy Council behaviour for 2007 is in it. This begins with a paragraph which describes the awards ceremony, puportedly held at the "Arghiros Suite" in the King Alfred, where the master of ceremonies claimed to be Brad Pitt but was exposed as a student called Wayne Fanshawe paid "50 quid by a shifty-looking bloke round the back of the town hall".

Very funny, check it out.
