Yes some areas now are no longer doing Exports
so many people in China to feed
they come first, of course.

| There have been bread riots in Cairo this week, and India has just announced it is stopping the export of rice, which is going to hit us here in the Gulf VERY hard - there are huge numbers of workers from the subcontinent here and if they can't get rice at affordable prices, there might be 'a bit of a kerfuffle'. |

| bio fuel crops may indeed be one answer ... however I also think we need to start thinking about what and how we are consuming. Especially here in the 'developed' world. |

Food prices go up worldwide
Oil has reached $112 a barrel
A year ago it was $60 a barrel
How much does it cost to ship the wheat/rice/maize around the world?
Brown has nothing to do with it

The US will convert 18 per cent of its maize into ethanol this year, rising to 45 per cent by 2015. The EU aims for six per cent within two years.
These trends, plus world population growth of 73 million a year and the surging economic growth in India and China, drove up global prices of maize, wheat and rice by more than 50 per cent last year. What does it matter if the poor can’t afford bread? As Marie Antoinette pointed out, they can always eat cake."
