There has beeen less publicity about the latest art installation on West Street than there was about the (now grubby) cones which were designed to symbolise the city's traffic problem.

Slightly to the north of the cones is another plastic work, except that this time it is of a horizontal, interlocking aspect and goes by the name of Jigsaw. It is said to be a symbol of the "networking" which is the main occupation of "new media" types.

How much did the Council spend upon this? Perhaps it was Councillor Bodfish's parting gesture.

David Hockney here blames a decline is visual skills on i-Pods, nobody looking anymore. Very readable.

Nice article. I know what he means about 'looking'. It takes discipline but it can be very rewarding. I try to look upwards when I am in towns - the higher floors of buildings show the old architecture and have not been covered by shopfronts and advertising. Being interested in photography helps, too.
