This whole thing has me fuming. I am incensed and never tohught I's say this but Libya should be thouroughly ashamed of its Justice System if this is what it ends up with.

Libya HIV death sentences upheld

This whole fiasco has been a travesty of justice, reason and intelligence.

I am truly saddened for the unfortunate families but these 7 human beings are NOT a sacrifice to be offered up on the altar of grief!

This is about revenge and making the Libyan gov look good, not about justice.

I came into the world with nothing and still have most of it left..

Well, all it has done is made the Libyan government look like backward barbarians! I never did think much of Gaddafi but hey hop ... not my problem as I am neither Libyan nor likely to ever fall under his jurisdiction but this .... it is outrageous!

Backward Barbarians?
These enlighted people?

They must have something in common with the peolpe that put men & women in stoning pits to execute for adultery....http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6288156.stm

Also those that promote female mutilation..http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6287926.stm

I think the enlightened western world should send missionaries!

True enough Daveb though in the main I am firmly of the opinion that it is entirely up to the people concerned as to whether or not to acquiesce to a specific rule of law. I am far from from agreeing with the notion of stoning people for adultery, female mutilation (which is actually cultural rather then Islamic) and the various other forms of barbaric punitive measures (including for instance the death penalty which is still exercised in the USA amongst other countries in the world).

However in this instance, these individuals have had no hand in acquiescence to a rule of law but have fallen foul of an outrageous system for being professionals in a caring field.

True Mim, but it is no worse than what the West does in terms of international politics. If you are going to be in the game with the likes of the US & Uk with all their dodgy arms deals, extridition, economic power then you need something as a barter chip..

Still it's a sad state of affairs when people are used as pawn's in poltical games like this

Oh look here comes Libya's reward, as if we needed more proof of the political motivations. At least they are trying to be friendly
