That is really exceptionally daft. Flowers?? OK, if it was trees that might spread roots under the house and cause damage, or ivy up the walls...or a very high hedge that would virtually hide the cottage. But `too pretty`..?!

I have to admit `pretty` has never been my idea of a garden. Ours and next door`s back gardens are huge, and ours has always been a bit `feral`, and next door`s has been very primly tidy for the last twenty-odd years. My hubby used to say to the chap next door that he liked the snow because our garden looked as tidy as theirs then.

Row faster, slaves! Caesar wants to waterski!

I keep thinking there has got to be more to this than is printed in the article. But perhaps not, in which case TB's one word post sums it up nicely.

I bet the very same council has erected a ton of street signage on the same street. Adverts, street clutter, signage ruin the aesthtic, but who could possibly object to flowers?

Well, if you create the job of "forward planning manager" then I suppose he's got to find something to do to justify his expensive existence.

We might call it "potty" but I think there's an unamusing and sinister undertone to all these "guidelines" and "advice". You get the impression that the people diseminating it would far rather be issuing an edict.

Yea it's odd, it just makes me laugh how council's can be so zealous about inforcing the odd laws we have about protecting the aesthetic of areas only to allow a giant advertising billboard to ruin the next street along.
