While looking through Burke's Peerage, Baronetage & Knightage, I was struck by the fact that Lord Bassam of Brighton does not display a Coat of Arms.
However, I gather that he is considering the matter and would welcome suggestions about the form this emblem should take, along with a suitable motto along the foot of it (not "Gotta Get to Greggs").
Naturally, being a man of the people, he does not want a parade of lions and eagles. To express solidarity with the hard-pressed London Road, Brighton, it would take a certain ingenuity to pass off a pair of tuna baguettes as something that would be approved by the College of Arms.
I hope we can rely upon people not to dwell upon Lord Bassam's squatting past and insinuate that a meter key should form part of this heraldic display.
Lord Bassam has, for some reason, specified that the colour Green should appear nowhere in his Coat of Arms.

A Fosters larger can crossed by two hypodermic syringes seems appropriate for Brighton, don't you think... |

| I don't know about a coat of arms but I have a handy motto for him. Nihili est - in vita priore ego imperator romanus fui |

| I should think Steve is immune by now to any attempts at backstabbing! |

| Lord Bassam is attracted by the idea of the intertwined baguette substitutes as a symbol of "joined-up government" (a notion which was around in his heyday). |

It will not have rampant lions on each side, that's for sure. Squatting students, maybe. |

A black sack covered in seagull crap with the crossed syringes might be more apt? |

| Yes, instead of proud lions the Coat of Arms could have a couple of the drugged, semi-snoozing dogs which are de rigueur for any of the city's self-respecting beggars. |

| Lord Bassam feels that it would be a fitting tribute to Anita Roddick to incorporate a couple of Body Shop bottles in the Coat of Arms. |

| Why not just staple Bassam to a duffle coat? |

| A splash of red is a recognised heraldic device for all the backstabbing that goes on. |
