Well it ultimately is the most adult of debates. Global capitalism does fine for many.

Your essential stand, it seems to me, is that it is unfair to make important generalisations about GROUPS of people and one shouldn't have any less expectation of of that group.

I think that is naive in practise.

My essential stand(?) is something I do not recognise from your description of it. Care to elaborate?

Well it's not supposed to be about you. I started with that assumption hoping not to be sidetracked. I'm wrong?

What exactly do you mean by that?

Oh I know that, which is why I was rather surprised with you going on about my essential stand and the accompanying waffle. So, shall we try again?

Many people already have and no doubt you are right and many will do so unnecessarily in the future before this mess gets sorted.

Zimbabwe? I think what is happening from Darfur to Cape Town is pretty relevant. Separating Zimbabwe from what has happened in the continent would be a mistake.

I'll take a punt (shoot the messenger in advance if you wish) that South Africa will be Zimbabwe times ten in 15 to 20 years time. If not before.

Yes NL I think you are quite right. It seems to be heading in that direction at the moment. Perhaps it's best to just bow out quietly and let them get on with it.

It being unimaginable horror. It is none of our business. Is this relative culturalism? They are relatively far removed.

A quote referred to in your link Tombstone
quote:
Mugabe is a hero. He liberated his people from white protestant serfdom. He fought the liberals and heretics who tried to destroy Zimbabwe. He outlawed sodomy. And he is still fighting against US imperialism and the traitors who seek to destroy the country from within … At the same time he is a devout and pious Catholic. Mugabe is truly a chivalric knight of our age … There is no injustice in what President Mugabe is doing. He is enforcing godly leadership on his people, just like King David did in Israel. Authoritarianism is of God.

Wow ... beating people into submission, raping for votes and torturing for reeducation is enforcing Godly Leadership!

I personally prefer the Karl Marx quote: 'Religion is the impotence of the human mind to deal with occurrences it cannot understand.'
