Ok, from the America/Chima who did what thread.

Cheap/Slave/Child labour.

UK has and still does use it, albeit underground use of immigrants.
Oh and the sex trade.

USA exploits Mexico.

It all goes around.

Made in Hong Kong - Long Time No See
Made in Japan - Long Time No See
Made in Tawain
Made in Korea
Made in India
Made in China

All use cheap oppressed labour supported by US & European countries.
When the cheap options run out what happens.

Strange how we do not see Made in Africa???????????????????

Why do you think the government is slow on dealing with the large immigration population into this country, a source of cheap labour.
Not good for the indigenous population as it forces down wages everywhere, Politicians do all the talk about stopping it but not the walk.

Won't be long before we see child labour abuses in Britain me thinks...

It goes around as the labour costs in each place go up. Cheap labour in Korea-increase in living standards and wage demands-go to the Philipines-oh no same thing happens-go to Burma-damn happens again-go to China-guess what. As every place gets more jobs and pay the living standards and also costs rise, I should imagine Africa will be on the agenda for cheap labour very soon. The problem starts when big business runs out of cheap workers, where can they go when every area has already been taken advantage of..........

I came into the world with nothing and still have most of it left..

There has to be a point in the Space Time Formula, where the Three Cents you save, in Labor, is Ate up, by the Transport Cost.

Even so it would have been made by someone paid nearly nothing.

We can sit back and blame big business as much as we like, the greed of corporations and all that and without a doubt there is some truth in it. But ultimately it all comes down to the end consumer. Are we willing to pay that much more to make sure that our purchases have not been manufactured using exploitative wage practises?

There IS something we can do that needn`t even cost more than the alternative - buying Fair Trade lines in supermarkets, particularly if it`s the supermarket`s own FT brand is a great way to get value for money and snub the exploiters like Nestle, etc. Co-op and Asda FT coffee and chocolate are big sellers for both those stores, that encourages them to try more FT lines.

Child Labour - that`s another matter entirely.

Sure Fair Trade helps some
although some reports
are that Many Goods Under that Fab Fair Trade Logo
are infact not.

That is because, for example,
a Product made a few months back is not so easy to check on,
once it is out of that Trendy Packing Paper.

If buying Fair Trade goods even helps just a little then it`s worthwhile. Every kind of trade is potentially subject to frauds and scams. Nestle Corporation blatantly exploit folks who can`t fight them, so it makes FT coffee and chocolate taste good just knowing it`s trade that Nestle and that ilk are losing. Every little helps!
