So ultimately we will all be much safer once the traffic flow has been reduced to zero. Then how come they are at the same time trying to reduce our road use. Congested traffic must be the safest on the road, the more cars -- the slower we all go -- the safer we all are. I hope that you will all support this point when Brighton council try and introduce congestion charging. In fact this article should be shown to Ken Livingston straight away as his congestion reduction must be responsible for many injuries and deaths on Londons roads. Be safe, use your car at every opportunity, congest a road near you and save someones life......

Really you cannot have it both ways, congestion costs money (supposedly) but less congestion costs lives.

I came into the world with nothing and still have most of it left..

Are you taking into account air pollution?

Pedestrians and cyclists expelling all that CO2 does pollute the atmosphere.

Cars travelling at optimum 30mph and following smoothly through a pedestrian/cyclist free zone would be far more efficient.

20mph 3rd gear higher engine revs = more petrol used = greater pollution.

It would cause LESS air pollution as if you are stuck in a jam--have the engine turn off automatically after a set time, easy-peasy. Less pollution and less fuel usage with happy pedestrians and cyclists nipping between all the parked cars.........

20 MPHs would change the whole style of traffic in a city centre and make it much easier for cyclist. People give out CO2 this is true, but not benezene and other harmfull chemicals which cause cancer.

Would 20mphs make that many more jams? It would mean it moved at a more constant speeed as there would be less speeding up and slowing down so mayve this would make it run smoothly. I don't know i'm no traffic expert.

It would certinaly mean less drunk people got run over at the weekends!

We already have quite a lot of 20mph zones here in built up areas and housing estates. Boy racers and a handful of other idiots still ignore the speed limits already in place. Can we try enforcing the ones we already have first? AND the hand-held mobile phone drivers!

Row faster, slaves! Caesar wants to waterski!
