Some of us more so then others. He serves a purpose in that his antics draw attention away from the serious stuff that people should be concentrating on. |

It's a pity Miriam that you so often reduce what can be serious and open discussions to the level of personal insults -- not only vis-a-vis other posters, but now to George G. Whether he is 'mentally ill' suffering from 'delusions of power' is not really relevant to the very important matters raised by George, most recently during the David A TV debate. (Obviously to his friends and family and those who know him, your use of the term is perceived as so 'out of place' they must wonder if they should mail you a copy of the OED!?) Supporters of today's political hierarchy, busy entertaining the Saudi chieftain (compared to whom the late Saddam represented the pinnacle of free speech and democracy!) obviously use their power, control and manipulation of the media to misrepresent those who SERIOUSLY threaten to expose their criminal acts ... especially now, as they prepare to extend their middle eastern atrocious wars to Iran... Even if your diagnosis of pathology were correct it would be as relevant as Beethoven's declared 'preference for trees rather than people' if we were assessing his ninth symphony.
If you have critical comments about things George said on the programme, please share them with us. |

| I think I have made my position regarding Gorgeous George sufficiently clear. The man is, as BiH quite rightly puts it, a "deluded egomaniac who appeals to the more tinfoilhat-wearing segment of the community" ... I assume the man has a degree of intelligence and it is the assumption of intelligence that leads me to see him as a megalomaniac. Then again, if he is acting the way he is because he sincerely believes that is the way forward then I might have to rethink the assumption of intelligence. |

You obviously haven't spoken to many Iraqis. This is a comment of mind-beggaring ignorance. The sort of thing George might come out with, in fact. |

Perhaps Anubis being such a close associate of George can list all of his achievements?
Tell us why he is deserting his electorate in Tower Hamletts and what he actulaly did for them?
Or maybe the next time you run into him, while looking at the market instead of where you are going make sure you are on your high horse and leave a few hoof prints. |

Yes, that was entertaining, as George usually is, but interestingly it was Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat, who punctured the pompous poseur's balloon during that hearing.

Some George quotes:
quote: "If you are asking did I support the Soviet Union, yes I did. Yes, I did support the Soviet Union, and I think the disappearance of the Soviet Union is the biggest catastrophe of my life."
"I have never seen a barrel of oil, owned one, bought one, sold one - and neither has anyone on my behalf."
"As for Gordon Brown - I've described him and Blair as two cheeks of the same arse."
"Some believe that those aeroplanes on September 11 came out of a clear blue sky. I believe they came out of a swamp of hatred created by us."
"Bush, and Blair, and the prime minister of Japan, and Berlusconi, these people are criminals, and they are responsible for mass murder in the world, for the war, and for the occupation, through their support for Israel, and through their support for a globalized capitalist economic system, which is the biggest killer the world has ever known. It has killed far more people than Adolf Hitler. It has killed far more people than George Bush. The economic system which these people support, which leaves most of the people in the world hungry, and without clean water to drink. So we're going to put them on trial, the leaders."

Did I mention that IMHO I do not like the opinions of George. If that means in the opinion of others I hate him then that is their opinion. If they think that their opinion is better than mine then that is also fine as long as I can disagree with their opinion. Opinions can be formed by meeting people, reading books & newspapers, watching TV news & debate etc. The then formed opinion will always differ from person to person depending on if they have other opinions on the subject in question.

I met George a while ago (getting about a bit just lately, Miriam!). As a politician he was no less brusque than you'd expect, but he does have a way of charming people.
It would be nice to like him, but I found he was far too ready to gloss over Muslim faults and rather too eager to highlight those of others. It's the same blinkered vision that has always hobbled the left.
As you might be aware, George is fighting off the efforts of the SWP to take over Respect, and a couple of weeks ago attended a meeting of Respect's Tower Hamlets branch (its biggest) which he took over, quite unconstitutionally. His motives may have been good - to stop Respect from being hi-jacked by a small group of plotters - but one has to question the judgement of a man who stormed in like a bull in a china shop, regardless of the legal consequences. |

| Yes, the cracks in the green/red alliance are showing. Although they share a hatred of American free-market capitalism and culture, that is not really enough to keep people of such disparate views together. I wonder if the Respect manifesto will now jetison such SWP ideas the right to choose one's religion or lack thereof, respect for people regardless of their sexual orientation and equal rights for women. Not very Halal, any of them. |
